We interrupt these conference previews for an important announcement.
There’s actual college football games on this weekend!!.Not sure why the NCAA has decided on these soft openings but I’m all for it. More football!!

Two lined games are on tap this weekend starting with:
Florida -7.0 vs Miami (FL) (in Orlando) – It’s definitely the more important of the two games. We will learn a ton about where these teams are headed. For Miami (FL) is the resurgence a real thing? It stumbled a bit last year under Richt but the Canes were able to retain former DC and now HC Manny Diaz as the defense was the calling card for the program. It’s all about keeping that Turnover Chain thing going.
But it’s not unusual for DC’s defenses to slip a bit when the get the HC nod. If he can improve the offense as much as he did the defense (and not have the defense slip) the Canes will be a real player. Win this game and all of a sudden they become the hot new team in the ACC with Clemson not on the slate and Va Tech and Virginia coming to Coral Gables.
For Florida it’s about going to that next level. 10 wins was fun and all but can they get to 11 and the SEC championship game. This game will have no bearing on the SEC but it will be telling if they can’t get by a second tier ACC team.
The Canes named a redshirt freshman as the starting QB. Good luck going up against UF defense that returns 8 starters, 10 if you include CB Marco Wilson and senior DE Jonathan Greenard. Wilson started all 11 games as a true freshman in 2017, only to tear his ACL in Week 2. Greenard has 10 career starts and 9.5 sacks from his time at Louisville in 2016 and ’17. He’s played under DC Todd Grantham at U of L, so he’s already familiar with the scheme.
Along with Wilson is preseason All American CB CJ Hernderson. The Gator defense doesn’t get as much pub but is every bit as good as the Canes.
Florida QB Feleipe Franks finished strong last season winning the last four games including blowouts over Florida State and scUM. He threw eight touchdown passes without an interception and ran for four more scores. He has an arm and overall size that NFL scouts salivate over, and he’s proven himself to be a willing and physical runner between the tackles. He needs to play a bit safe against a UM defense that loves to force the turnover.
I usually like taking underdogs early in the year since no one really knows what teams are all about. But I’m going to lay the points here. Franks will play it safe and take away the one advantage the canes like to play – turnovers. Meanwhile the Gators will cause a few on a rookie QB playing on a big stage.
And Florida is due. They are 1-7 SU and ATS vs the Canes.
Put me down for a quatloo and a quatloo on the under 47.0 as both defense shine.

Hawaii +11.5 vs Arizona – Is Arizona HC Kevin Sumlin going to let Khalil Tate be Khalil Tate again or will he continue the attempt to make him a pocket passer. If it’s the latter, the Cats are going to be in catch up mode real quick.
Is Hawaii trying to get into the PAC 12? It's the first of three games against the left coast conference with Oregon State and Washington on the September slate.
Hawaii’s star QB Cole McDonald is going to bomb away on a shaky AZ pass defense and hope for the best. The goal will be to get to 30 points. The Rainbows were 7-0 when the hit that mark and 1-6 when they turned up short.
Kevin Sumlin is a smart coach. He’s going to turn Tate loose. And Tate wants to show season was a fluke.
But, I’m going to take Hawaii and the points. 11.5 is a lot of points to give to Hawaii, a team that can score in a hurry. And teams traveling to the Islands can get a little unfocused. Not wagering any quatloos though. 55% of the wagers are on Hawaii. Betting on public dogs is risky.
I will lay a quatloo in the over 74.0 just for fun. With Tate running around and McDonald bombing away there could be a lot of fireworks.
