Friday we had a grand old time at the Beer Park across from the Bellagio Another fun GO JUMBO weekend.
Woz and I arrived on Thursday to kick things off. The first bets were laid and, well, not so good - on football that is. He went 0-2 and I went 0-1. A harbinger of things to come.
Woz did recoup some of his losses on hockey, a trend that was to continue.
On Friday, the gang started to assemble. We made our bets for the evening and headed over to the Beer Park, a nice outdoor purveyor of adult beverages, chock full of TVs, just outside the Paris casino, overlooking the Bellagio fountains.
Those fountains put on quite a display. They would sway to the music and then periodically there would be an explosion as the jets reached to the top of the Bellagio – 500 ft high. Fantastic!
All the while we were catching up on the year, kids, parents, other Hole members. And we were showing our ages too as we discussed not only various retirement count downs but our latest medical conditions. We are all fine thank you.
Woz and I again lost our football bets but I won on the World Series while he continued to clean up on the NHL. We regrouped back at the Westgate, opened a bottle of Jameson’s Black Barrel and planned for the next day.

A late Brighton and Hove goal got me a lucky win FFDY!! I planned on being down at 6:30. I was too excited. I got up at 5:00 and wandered on down to got some tables. Fortunately, I had made some Premier League bets. Not only did I have something to root for but I was winning too!
Woz soon joined as did Pat. Attendance was to be excellent as Woz’s friend Bruce II, Pete, Berj, Zog, Fuss and Trent ultimately all made it. Now it was a party!
We made our bets for the day, remembering to get our drink coupons. We were swimming in coupons. And with the rest of the Black Barrel I smuggled in, we were swimming in adult beverages too.
As far as the actual football itself, uggh. We all struggled with our football bets. For the most part we bet on the favorites to cover. A natural phenomenon I pointed out. If the favorite doesn't cover there is a tendency to blame a few plays or just plain bad luck. But if you take an underdog and get smoked you fell like an idiot. Why would I take such a pathetic team.

I'm still of the opinion that he will be able to retire but not name his replacement. I wouldn't be surprised that he negotiates his buy out forward from February to the end of the season and retires after a flea bag bowl game. He loses too much of the roster after this year and next year's schedule is brutal.
After the Spartan apocalypse, Trent broke out some Cubans. We left to sports book to have a smoke and commiserate.
Nick texted his pleasure with his team. scUM destroyed the Domers costing us several bets.
Two Mega Bet losses insured a losing day. The Sheriff apologized for his Arizona State pick but no offer of compensation was forthcoming. The South Carolina Mega Bet was entirely on me. An all too familiar spectacular Rodgers TD toss clinched us a parlay Sunday turned out much better for the betting. Once again, I arrived early to save the tables with a Premier League bet in hand. I'm considering just sticking to soccer nest year. I was 4-0 on the pitch. Woz soon joined as did Pat. We made our bets and got the drink coupons. But unlike FFDY I didn't bring down any extra beverages. I had overserved myself a bit day before.

After thorough analysis and discussion the Executive Committee determined that the 2020 GO JUMBO trip will be Oct 24, 2020 I was kicking myself for not betting more. I was gun shy after Saturday's results. Seattle then proceeds to go into prevent defense for the entire second half. Arrrrgh. Atlanta eventually cuts the lead to 27-20 and gets the cover. I'm still pissed at Pete Carroll.
Woz continued to win on the NHL ending up 12-4 for the weekend. Nice! Berj and Zog had some nice NFL wins. Zog can't wait to come back next year. Chuck, it's how they suck you in. They let you win the first year. You think you have it figured out and then Wham! Losses strewn across your betting slips.
As the evening wound down we discussed and made our prop bets for the year. I took a flyer on Boston in the NHL and NBA. Woz made an interesting bet on the CFP. Alabama and Clemson for +120 plus a kicker on Ohio State.
After the gang said their goodbyes for the year Woz made the final winning bet of the year. He went to the electric roulette machine, put in $10 and said I'll play until I lose it all or I'm up $5. First roll he wins $9. That's it!! We are out of here.
But not before the Executive Committee decided on the 2020 GO JUMBO trip. With a quorum sufficiently formed and the proper amount of beer served the Executive Committee determined that the 2020 GO JUMBO trip will be Oct 24th at the Westgate.
One topic that generated a good amount of discussion is not staying at the Westgate itself. This year I paid as much on the "Resort Fee" as I did on the room itself. And what did I get for the exorbitant fee? Free internet - that's a given these days. Access to the pool? I'm usually discouraged from going to the pool and embarrassing other guests with my barrel aged physique. Access to the fitness center? Riiiight.
I'll probably stay at the Spring Hill Suites across the street and use points.
Can't wait! It'll be another rocking good time.
