Miserable. It’s the only way to describe the Spartan game. The weather was miserable and the offense was worse.
I’ve been defending OC Dave Warner for several weeks but I’m about to exit stage right from his cheering section. The idea coming into the game was to pound away at the Nebraska defense until it collapsed late. When you turned on the game and see gusting winds and snow falling, you knew that was the only way to go.
Things started out well. Connor Heyward was pounding away nabbing a thin 3-0 half time lead. But in the fourth quarter, when the pounding away should have gotten it’s pay off we went nearly entirely through the air. Why?

Conditions were horrible. The snow was really starting to fall and the winds had picked up. Lombardi was barely accurate and the WRs were dropping passes like Pete at a dorm game. Not only was it incompletion after incompletion but it was slowing the clock giving the Huskers time to get back in the game.
By the third quarter we were up 6-0. I was texting that we were one play from disaster thinking that a missed tackle and long TD scamper would put Nebraska ahead. We are not a good come from behind team.
The disaster play was actually by the offense. In a passing formation, naturally, Lombardi, muffs the snap, gets sack and fumbles. First down Nebraska at our 20. The defense holds again and it 6-6. Momentum had changed for good.

Punting into the wind (another issue - why did we elect to defer at the beginning of the game? That meant that we received to start the second half but Nebraska gets to choose which way to kick. Of course, they chose having the wind in the fourth quarter. Bad call by Dantonio) we kick it 35 yards.
Nebraska moves to our 35 and with the wind kicks the winning FG.
Don’t understand it at all. Just plain miserable.
Nearly as miserable were my picks. Yup, they were bad. Like, should get a salad but turn into the KFC to try the chicken and waffles bad.
I went 0-4 on college and 1-2 on the pros. But it’s not how you pick them it’s how you bet them. In college I did manage to get the Point Whore parlay correct (if you get 40+ points you take 40+ points) so there was a small profit.
In the pros, the one win was a Mega Bet as KC covered by the hook. I’ve been like the winner on the Gong Show. I never get the hook. But I did this week. Nice (lucky) decent profit. Fantastic game too!

Here’s some other tidbits while you contemplate your thanksgiving feasting, football and nap time schedule.
There are five HC’s that have won a national championship. You know Nick, Dabo, Urban and Jimbo. But the fifth is getting ready to return to the sidelines to coach the biggest outdoor biff in college football.
Les Miles is going to Kansas. Great to have the Mad Hatter back eating grass on the sidelines. Well maybe not grass. Kansas plays on turf.
MSU led the NCAA in rush defense last year giving up 1,239 yards on the ground. This year they have only let up 868 yards. If the hold Rutgers to under 132 yards the Spartans will be only the fifth team to hold teams under 1,000 yards over the last ten years. Three of the other teams were named Bama. Bama let up 938 yards in 2011.
To beat that we need to hold the Dobby’s Scarlet Fever under 70 yards. I like our chances.
Remember the 2019 GO JUMBO trip is Oct 26th at the Westgate SuperBook.
