The Doofus Deck was up and running all weekend. Lots of games to watch and lots of games watched.
Here’s some takeaways from week 1.
Coming out of Saturday, there were questions if Hawaii was for real and if New Mexico State and Colorado State were that bad. Yup, yup and yup.
Was Michigan overrated again? Of course! The OL is still a sieve and the Sheavior will be another in a line of mediocre QBs. Nick texted a recap from ESPN that sums it up perfectly.
“Ole Miss looked just fine without him. Michigan looked like the same old Michigan with him. What does that mean for Patterson? Maybe it's too early to give up on the guy after one game, but let's just say history isn't on his side here. The silver lining is John O'Korn, Tate Forcier and Jake Rudock run a wonderful support group with light snacks and tea.”
And: “After the latest offensive debacle — another Harbaughcle, if you will — the Wolverines have their first four-game losing streak since the Rich Rodriguez Era and the 2009 season. Nobody in maize and blue has ever wanted to put Harbaugh and Rich-Rod in the same sentence, yet here we are.”
The real question is whether Notre Dame is that good. They blew through what was supposed to be a pretty good defense. I’m not convinced. The Domers were stuffed in the second half and held on for the win. Michigan actually outgained ND. I put ND in the 15-20 rank range. scUM will be worse than that. They’ll blow out the sisters of the poor and stumble against the big boys.
Still, I like the fact that Harbaughcle is 9-9 over his last 18.
Bama crushed another Top 25 team on opening weekend. They are the horse that likes to start out fast of the gates, keep the lead and wear down the field.
Miami (FL) looked overrated too as LSU defense stuffed them all night long. That’s four straight double digit losses for the chain gang.
That LSU - Bama matchup on the GO JUMBO weekend just got a lot more interesting.
Tom Herman from Texas is in only his second year but his seat is warming up after losing to Maryland for the second year in a row. Classy move by the Horns though when they declined the delay of game penalty when Maryland lined up with only ten men to honor former player Jordan McNair.
FSU’s offense was awful last night forcing DC Harlon Barnett’s defense to be on the field too long. With the Canes and Noles stumbling it clears the path for Va Tech and Clemson. BC and Ga Tech may have a say in that too.

Those losses weren’t nearly as bad as those by San Jose State, East Carolina, Temple, UTEP and of course, Kansas. They all lost to Div 1AA teams. Surprised by Temple. The rest have been bad for several years now.
Washington’s loss to Auburn may not have officially killed off the Huskies chances but the rest of the PAC 12’s stumbling didn’t help their cause. UCLA lost to Cincinnati, Zona looked awful against BYU and USC took way too long to put away UNLV.
The Big Ten was a mixed bag. Ohio State steamrolled Oregon State and Maryland upset Texas but MSU was less than crisp, Michigan lost and Penn State was lucky to avoid 2007 redux when it needed OT to beat App State. The Nits miss Saquon more than they let on.
In the Big 12, Oklahoma crushed the Fighting Kiffins. Lane may be a one year wonder. Meanwhile Will Grier’s Heisman chances got a boost as the Neers destroyed Tennessee. Kansas State might be in for a tough year as they barely got by South Dakota.

The Doofus got off to a rough start going 0-2 on the Mega Bets. One was bad coaching the other was FML.
Arizona -10.5 vs BYU – HC Kevin Sumlin totally misused Khalil Tate. He decided to keep him the pocket and toss the deep ball. That’s not Tate’s game and made the BYU defense’s job all that much easier. Meanwhile BYU used their decided size advantage to pound the Forks into submission 28-23 LOSS
Oregon vs Bowling Green Under 72.5 – Certain things are under killers - muffed punts, turnovers in your own red zone, pick sixes. Every one of those happened in this game. BGSU fumbled at their 21, threw a pick six, had a 12 yard punt which led to a TD and to top it off, had a safety. That’s 23 points Ugly. Final score Oregon 58 BGSU 24 LOSS
The rest of the wagered picks weren’t too bad going 13-5-1 on quatloo and Mini Megas but the misallocation of the wagers led to a loss this week. But it's early. Just need to allocate the bets better.
