Hide the children, turn down the sound, it’s massacre week! The underdogs came out with bloody chainsaws and laid waste to all kinds of polls, rankings and playoff projections.
You could see it start on Wednesday when Sun Belt favorite Troy lost to a 1 win South Alabama. Then again, maybe that was just one of those fun belt things.
But, on Friday, when Syracuse downed Clemson followed by Cal trouncing Wazzou the killing field was set.
When they were done four of the top ten teams and seven of the top 25 had been slaughtered. Another four top 25 teams just escaped the carnage by the skin of their teeth. That’s a full half of the ranked teams that were in action this week.
And they didn’t spare the Doofus as I had my first losing week of the year.
Navy +3.5 @ Memphis – Memphis forced 5 turnovers as they held on to beat Navy. It was the third straight time Memphis beat a top 25 team. But the hook was my friend though as the final score was 30-27 WIN

San Diego State +7.0 vs Boise State – The Broncos started the game with a punt return for a TD and then followed it up with a scoop six. The chainsaws were buzzing. Rashad Penny was held to less than 100 yards for the first time all season as BSU dominated 31-17 LOSS
And the horror show continued into the NFL with
Tampa Bay -1.5 @ Arizona – Jameis Winston left the game with a shoulder injury in the 2nd quarter with the Bucs trailing 21-0. Shortly into the 3rd it was 31-0. That's when Mr H’s favorite player, Harvard grad Ryan Fitzpatrick, led a furious comeback cutting the lead to 38-32 with 2:02 left. But the onside kick failed and the Cards ran out the clock LOSS
It was the first losing weekend of the year. Not unexpected but still disappointing.
A Point Whore Parlay win mitigated a good chunk of the losses with:
Boston College +21.5 @ Louisville – BC wins outright 45-42 WIN
Purdue +17.5 @ Wisconsin – tough to cover the spread if you don’t even score the spread. Wisconsin 17 Purdue 9 WIN
Utah +12.5 @ Southern Cal – The Utes went for 2 after scoring a TD with 42 seconds left. They missed and USC won 28-27 WIN
OK, this week happens every year. Teeth are gnashed, bowl projections are reset, the conversation turns to which is the best 1 loss team and then college football moves on. Here’s some other things from the murdering clown week.
Last week Darrell Langham had a great last second TD catch to beat FSU. This week he made a fantastic catch to keep the Canes winning drive alive. I thought Mrs B would have a heart attack watching this (check it out at the 1:30 mark

With Navy and San Diego State losing, South Florida is starting to put a stranglehold on the best Group of Five team. The Bulls beat Cincinnati 33-3 which means they have scored at least 30 points in a game for the 23rd consecutive game. That ties the longest such stretch in college football since 1936.
West Virginia beat #24 Texas Tech 46-35. It was their first win over a ranked team in ten tries.
In one of the weeks near misses for ranked teams scUM beat Indiana 27-20. Indiana's losing streak to Michigan is now 22 games, but the last two times the Wolverines have come to Bloomington it has gone to overtime.
#5 Washington losing at Arizona State? Maybe that’s not such a big surprise after all. It was their seventh straight loss at ASU They haven’t won in Tempe since 2001.
Ohio State avoided the teen scare fest by annihilating Nebraska 56-14. They are attempting to impress the judges by rolling up scores. The Bucknuts have scored 54 or more points in their last 4 games and are 4-0 on the overs
A week ago, Tulane beat Tulsa, 62-24, to move the Golden Hurricane to just 1-5 in 2017. They were staring a 3-9 or worse on the season. On Saturday, they stomped 4-1 Houston 40-17. Tulane, meanwhile, lost to FIU 23-10. Don't you just love upset week.
At half time of the LSU Auburn it was "Fire Ed Orgeron - he's toast" as LSU was trailing Auburn 17-0. An hour later "It's Ed's shining moment" as the other Tigers rallied to a 20-17 win. College football - know what I mean
