Let’s see if we can a good thing going
But this time sober. If the picks pan out – great! If not it’s back to drinking. A win win scenario!
Three great games on tap this weekend including
Auburn +5.0 @ Clemson – Auburn’s defense is the real deal. They shut down a tricky high powered Ga Southern attack by dominating in the trenches. Clemson is playing in its first real game since DeShaun Watson left for the league.
Last year , Auburn had the ball with a chance to win at the end. This years Auburn team is better than last’s while Clemson won’t be as good. I’ll take the points in a low scoring contest. Make it for a Mini Mega
Oklahoma +7.5 @ Ohio State – Oklahoma has the revenge factor. Ohio State has home field. The Sooners QB Baker Mayfield was brilliant last week destroying UTEP 56-7, throwing for 3 TDs and one incompletion. Not interception, one incomplete pass for the entire game.
Ohio State struggled early against Indiana before blowing out Indiana. I try to not put too much emphasis on the first game so I see the Bucknuts winning. But by more than a TD? I doubt it. I’ll take the Sooners but not put down any quatloos. I’ll just root against Fighting Urbans.
Stanford +6.5 @ USC – Stanford has owned USC over the last decade or so. They are 8-3 straight up and 14-3 ATS versus the condoms. I’ll stick with that trend and take the nearly TD for another Mini Mega.

And without the benefit of the Devil’s brew – here are my Mega Bets for the week
Iowa -2.5 @ Iowa State – I usually don’t make bets on rivalry games and I really don’t like giving points when I do. Not only that, it’s a revenge game for the Cyclones having been destroyed last year 42-3. But this one seems too tempting.
Iowa’s defense has reloaded shutting down a top 5 pick in Wyoming's Josh Allen last week. They Hawks eliminated the big play by keeping Allen to one pass over 14 yards and shut down the running attack, holding the Cowboys to 59 yards rushing.
Meanwhile, Iowa State was beating a very good Div 1AA team, Northern Iowa 42-24 last week. But they needed two pick sixes to secure the win.
I’ll take a stout Iowa defense and just enough of a ground game for the Hawkeyes to win by a TD.
Minnesota +2.0 @ Oregon State – Oregon is a mess. First they get blown out by Colorado State, then they need a last minute TD to get by an OK but not great Div 1AA Portland State. Portland State actually outgained the Beavers.
The PJ Fleck era opened up with much fanfare and then pffft. They barely got by Buffalo. Actually the game started out fine as the Gophers scored TDs on two of their first 4 drives and then nothing. They let the defense win the game behind a very conservative game plan.
That defense will shut down the Beavers and the ground game will pull out a nice win
And the first 2017 Mega Bet on the NFL

And the first 2017 Mega Bet on the NFL

Philadelphia -1.0 @ Washington – Washington won both games against Philly last year. A major reason was a banged up offensive line. This year the line is healthy while Washington’s is banged up.
Carson Wentz will have time to find Alshon Jeffrey and Torrey Smith against a Washington secondary missing its starting safety.
Zach Ertz (part of Woz's Big Book of Guesses fantasy league) figures to have a strong game too. Add in the addition of LaGarrette Blount to pound out the tough yards and the Eagle offense will be humming
I’ll lay the points as Philly beats Washington for the first time in six games.
I’ll take some Mini Megas to (in addition to Auburn and Stanford)
New Orleans +3.0 @ Minnesota – All Day gets his revenge as the improving Saints defense keeps Sam Bradford in check
Baltimore +3.0 @ Cincinnati – A healthy Ravens team for once, rolls by a Bengal defense missing suspended Vontaze Burfict and Adam “Not PacMan” Jones
LA Chargers +3.0 vs Denver – The Denver defense is a shell of its former self. And Philip Rivers is far superior to Trevor Siemian. Chargers will keep the chains moving and Denver can’t keep up.
South Carolina +2.5 @ Missouri – South Carolina QB Jake Bentley shreds a disastrous Missouri secondary in a high scoring affair.
And I’ll make the first point whore parlay pick of the year with:
Fresno State +43.5 @ Alabama
Pitt +21 @ Penn State - The Wolfman reminded me that this is a revenge game for the Nits so I downgraded the pick to a parlay
Middle Tenn State +9.5 @ Syracuse

The Sheriff hopes to rebound with some excellent picks
San Diego State (+3.5) @ Arizona State. The Aztecs return most of its team from last year’s Mountain West Champion 11-3 squad with the exception of stud RB Donnel Pumphrey, who has been capably replaced by Rashaad Penny. The Sun Devils barely survived New Mexico State last week and will be battling for the cellar in the PAC-12 South with Arizona. No need for points, Aztecs win this game outright.
Stanford (+6.5) @ USC. Our next entry in the Heisman Trophy candidate RB replacement sweepstakes is Bryce Love of the Stanford Cardinal. He’s no Christian McCaffrey, but most teams would love to have him. USC gave up 263 yards rushing to Western Michigan last week, and the Sheriff expects the Cardinal to pound the rock with Bryce Love until the Condoms say uncle. Take Stanford and the points.
Oregon (-14) vs Nebraska. Willie Taggert appears to have the Duck offense back on track after Oregon hung 77 on Southern Utah in its opener whereas Nebraska was lucky to eke out a 43-36 win over Arkansas State. Look for the Ducks to roll in this one.
