That was a feast last night. Jason did a great job cooking up a cornucopia of food. And then it was on to adult beverages and reindeer games into the early morning hours.
All right, the picks have been lousy ever since I started the last engagement. It even affected the GO JUMBO trip when I had to work all day Friday while everyone else was out having a grand old time
But it’s over now. I have no excuses. Just in time for Rivalry Week.
First let’s catch up on the Coaching Carousel. Tennessee fired Butch Jones last week and named Brady Hoke as the interim HC. So where is the Hoke-a-mania. Brady as the savior? Oh that’s right. That kind of stuff happens in Ann Arbor not Knoxville. Knoxville is drooling all over itself that Jon Gruden will leave the broadcasting booth and return to the sidelines.
Then UCLA fired Jim Mora a couple days back. They are looking to pull someone out of the broadcast booth too – Chip Kelly. Keep an eye on those tail numbers football fans!
It’s one of the best weeks in the college football season – Rivalry Week. Or “I don’t care if we don’t win another game as longs as we beat scumbag U"

Auburn +5.5 vs Alabama - The biggest one this year and in most years is the Iron Bowl. Auburn has worked its way back into the SEC West and maybe, just maybe into the playoff discussion after dismantling Georgia two weeks ago. Win this Tigers and take down Georgia again the SEC championship game and we might have our first two loss team in the playoffs.
But first they need to win the game.
The Process works. Bama has won 10 or more games every year since 2008. And they have been in every playoff since its inception. Now comes their biggest regular season challenge since the Kick 6 in 2013. Beat a surging Auburn in Jordan Hare.
This is going to be a fantastic game. Two superb defenses. Two QBs playing great. Playmakers all over the field.
This is going to be a theme. I’m taking the home team getting the points. This sounds like a FG type game and I’m getting 5.5. Make it a Mini Mega.

South Florida +10.0 @ Central Florida - The next best game is in Florida. But it doesn’t involve Miami (FL) Florida or Florida State. It doesn’t even involve a Power 5 team. Nope it’s USF vs UCF - The War on I4.
And it’s going to be a battle royale. The winner will likely have the leg up on Boise State for a New Years 6 Bowl game.
This game comes down to whether USF’s ferocious pass rush, which is number one in tackles for loss, can contain Central Florida’s prolific passing attack that leads the nation in scoring
Or can Central Florida’s DL contain USF’s sixth ranked rushing attack led by QB Quinton Flowers.
UCF is the better overall team as the Bulls defense can spring leaks at times. And they are playing at home. But the spread is a bit much for a rivalry game. I’ll take the Bulls and the points for a quatloo.

Ohio State -12.0 @ Michigan – This used to be a big game but scUM took the bigness out of it.Thirdbaugh outdid himself this year clinching 4th place in the Big Ten East.
The QB whisperer is on his third or fourth QB this year (I’ve lost count) none who have been effective. Peters is in the concussion protocol meaning scUM will likely go back to QB savior #2 O’Korn. Doesn’t really matter. None of the them can move the ball.
OC Kevin Wilson’s up tempo offense ran circles around State a couple of weeks back. It will do the same against an overrated scUM defense. JT Barrett is in for a big day.
Giving 12 points in a rivalry game in the opponents crib. It goes against everything I stand for. Except I can’t stand scUM. I’m betting my heart in this one and making it a Mega Bet.

Iowa -3.5 @ Nebraska – Is there a quirkier team in college football than Iowa. They absolutely prison sexed Ohio State then follow it up with a blow out loss to Wisconsin. Then the kicker, a loss to Purdue.
Nebraska fans are waiting one more game before they fire Mike Reilly and make a stupid money offer to UCF HC Scott Frost.
Normally I would take the home underdog, but I think the Iowa quirky meter will shift back to hot. I’ll take the Hawkeyes. No quatloos though.
San Diego State -20.5 vs New Mexico – Rashaad Penny is going to go nuts in his home finale. New Mexico’s offense wont go anywhere against SDSU’s MWC best run defense. I’m putting a Mini Mega on the Apztecs and another on the over 48.0
Texas -10.0 vs Texas Tech – I still miss when Rivalry week included Texas A&M vs Texas. Trying to make a rivalry game with Texas Tech just doesn’t get it done for me.
Texas Tech is only good when they are playing pitiful teams. Texas is not pitiful. The defense is rock solid and will contain the one dimensional TTU aerial attack.
I’ll lay the points at home. No quatloos though. The spread is about right.

Florida +5.0 vs Florida State – Like OSU vs scUM, this game used to mean something too. But both teams have screwed it up this year. FSU never recovered from losing their starting QB at the beginning of the year. Florida has been a cluster for a couple of years and is now looking for a new HC.
This should be a messy low scoring affair. Neither team can moce the football while both defenses are not bad.
Rivalry game, getting points at home? I’ll sign up. I’m taking the Gators for a quatloo.
I’ll have some more picks in Part 2 but here are some more Friday games.
Virginia +7.5 vs Virginia Tech – 13 straight. That’s the Hokies winning streak over UVA. You kinda need to win a few games to make it a rivalry. And getting blown out 52-10 last year doesn’t help the Cav’s cause.
Both teams are nothing special this year. Granted, Va Tech is going to a bowl for the 25th year in a row and Virginia is bowl eligible for the first time since 2011 but they are a combined 2-4 in November.
Another – take the underdog at home, for over a TD too. I’ll take the Cavs to step up for a quatloo.

UCLA -7.0 vs Cal – The Sheriff has been on fire lately. I was going to take UCLA after watching Josh Rosen dissect USC last week. He really seemed on but the Sheriff is betting his heart and the Bears.Screw it I’ll take UCLA but no quatloos.
Here’s the rest of the Sheriff’s picks
Cal (+7) @ UCLA. The Golden Bears need one more win to become bowl eligible under first-year HC Justin Wilcox. If they play as well as they did last week against Stanford, they will get it. The Bears haven’t beaten UCLA in the Rose Bowl since the Dawn of Man.
Purdue (-2.5) vs Indiana. See above. 5-6 team that has improved greatly under a first-year HC seeks bowl eligibility for the first time in many years. After beating Iowa in Iowa City last week (something Urban Meyer’s Bucknuts couldn’t do), the Boilers will beat their rivals and return the Old Oaken Bucket to its rightful place along the banks of the Wabash river.
Washington State (+9) @ Washington. If Wazzu wins the Apple Cup, they win the PAC-12 North. If the Huskies win, Stanford wins the PAC-12 North. The Cougs have the motivation and the bye week to prepare. The Pirate will get his first PAC-12 North title and a re-match with USC in the PAC-12 championship game.
The Doofus - I'm liking this one too
