Happy New Year!!
New Year's Eve celebrations are widely considered the most lame of the year. That's why Mrs. Doofus and I were glad the party invite from the neighbors included the clause "party will not go to midnight" We haven't made it to the count down in years. We welcomed in the New Year getting some well deserved shut eye.
Now as far as New Year's resolutions, I'll forego the usual, I'll be a better husband, lose weight, save some money....
Those last about a month. So rather than screw up January, I'll make one simple vow.
I vow never to bet on State again. I made the same vow last year only to falter a bit when I saw the Spartans getting 18. Cost me a double Mini Mega. Nope not going to do it this year. Nope nope nope - no matter what the spread.
Of course, taking a prop bet on Izzo to cut down the nets in San Antonio this year doesn't count.
Hopefully the 2018 picks are better than the last picks of 2017.
After a good week of picks everything went down in flames on Saturday. With a chance to end up in 5th I’m now in 19th place.
So screw deep analytics, I’m going with my gut and heart in the last full day of bowl season starting with:
South Carolina +8.0 vs Michigan – Pure heart bet. If I can't bet on State, there is no way in Hades I'm going to bet on Michigan. You can root for Michigan if it helps State (the Swag Man and I had a long discussion on this) but never bet on scUM.
The pressure is all on Michigan. The Big Ten is 7-0 with this game to go. scUM is favored. A loss here will amp up the rumblings about Thirdbaugh.
This game is going to be an offensive bore. scUM finished 100th in total offense. The Cocks were worse at 108th. But before you bet the under 41.5, while South Carolina was 8-3 on the under this year, Michigan is 23-9-1 on the over and 10-2 on neutral sites.
The analytics say take the Wolvies with a better defense but who cares. Cocks for a quatloo.

Auburn -11.5 vs Central Florida – Every year there is a Group of Five team trying to show that they belong with the Big Boys of College football. This year is Central Florida.and the nations number one offense. I'll admit this is the best team from the GOF since Boise State stormed the stage about ten years ago. They are a blast to watch when they have the ball.
But, the Knights haven’t faced a quality defense all year. Auburn brings the D finishing 9th in points allowed. And the Tigers are not your usual Power Five, New Year Day, good but not great team. They beat two teams in the playoffs (Georgia and Alabama) and nearly beat a third in Clemson.
Bowl games can come down to motivation. It will be there for UCF as they attempt go go undefeated and take down a powerhouse. Add to thtat the HC Scott frost agreed to coach this game before bolting for Nebraska next year. I've never seen that done nor allowed by ADs.
Will it be there for Auburn? I think so. They want to show the football world they belong in the playoffs that start later today.
The analytics say take the Knights. Group of Five “BCS Bowl Busters” are 8-2 ATS against Power Five teams on New Years Day. Auburn is 0-3-1 ATS against non SEC teams. Malzahn has only won one bowl game at Auburn, the Birmingham Bowl. A game we went and watched the Big Guy man the sidelines.
I'll be rooting for Auburn for my pool but putting a quatloo on the Knights as they get a late back door screwy TD.

LSU -3.5 vs Notre Dame – It's two team that rely on the ground game. The Domers behind RB Josh Adams and QB Brandon Wimbush finished 7th in rushing.
LSU counters star RB Derrius Guice. Unlike Fournette last year, Guice will be playing in a bowl game.
The trends favor the Tigers. They are on a 7-0 win streak ATS since stumbling against Troy. Notre Dame has lost four straight AATS
But it's the Tiger defense I'll rely on. They were in the top 25 against the run and pass this year ad will shut down a one dimensional Domer attack.
I hate the Domers. I’ll put a Mini Mega Bet on the LSU

Georgia -2.5 vs Oklahoma – Oklahoma has Heisman trophy winner Baker Mayfield and the fourth best scoring offense, Georgia has a damn good running game and the fourth ranked defense (2nd against the pass) too.
When Oklahoma sells out to stop RBs Nick Chubb, De'Andre Swift and Sony Michel, QB Jake Fromm will keep the chains moving. Fromm gained confidence through the year, ending up 2nd in the SEC in passing efficiency and 3rd with 21 TDs.
Georgia is too balanced and has a great defense. I'll lay the short number and put a Mega Bet on the Saxy Lady's Dawgs.

Clemson +3.0 vs Bama – Clemson vs Bama round three, It's the third straight year that these teams have squared off in the playoffs. It's the Cavs/Warriors, Ali/Frazier rivalry of college football.
It's features the two best defenses in Div 1A. Bama was 1st in scoring defense. Clemson was 2nd.
Bama QB Jalen Hurts is a great runner but he can have issues passing. In the Tide's only loss on the season to Auburn he went 11/22 112 yards ad a 46.3 QBR.
The only time Clemson lost, Tiger QB Kelley was knocked out of the game.
Bama is not as good as in prior years. Clemson is as good if not better than the team that won last year.
And what is it with Vegas and Clemson in bowl games. They have made the Tigers underdogs in seven straight. Clemson has won six outright and all seven ATS
Make it eight for a Mega Bet
