The Sax Man called Saturday morning. He was taking Saxy Lady to her first MSU game. She had seen the Spartans play before in bowl games but never in Spartan Stadium. The weather was perfect. They were pumped. He was getting ready to go over and watch the Spartan Band head to the stadium.
He tried looking for Pete, Pat and the gang over by the old tailgating spot – the Computer Center. His efforts were in vain. They had gotten too fat and old to be tailgating and it was too late to try and track down BK and Mrs BK.
The game itself was OK. State was solid though nothing special. The pass defense is struggling and the Chips got way too many third down conversions. Connor Cook was inaccurate far too many times and the run game took too long to get going.
CMU actually outgained State. You can get away with getting outgained every once and awhile. But it will catch up to you. All in all – a win is a win.
That said, State is not playing anywhere near the #2 team in the country. Then again, who is?
I stayed inside on a drizzly day back home, infuriating the kids. I was flipping between three to four games at once while having another game on the computer. I was in football heaven.
Far better than the cartoons they were begging to watch. Hey, that stuff will turn your brain to mush! Just look at mine. It’s the product of hours and hours of Bugs, Road Runner, Tennessee Tuxedo, Foghorn, Jetsons, Mighty Mouse…. all while amped up by a breakfast of several bowls of Sugar Pops, Quake and Count Chocula. Good times.
The thrashing I’ve given it during my adult life hasn’t it helped much either.
The thought that I might be saving themselves from my fate didn’t make much of an impression. They were still bugging me to watch cartoons. After several futile minutes I told them to eat a couple of doughnuts, then run around the outside of the house and scream their fool heads off.
Mrs Doofus put the kabosh on that idea. She unloaded the toy box right where I was watching the games and told me I was in charge of watching the kids.
I saw the games. Can’t say I could hear the games.
I got my nerves back together when State put the game away in the fourth quarter. I decided to switched over to the Mega Bet games.
It was fantastic!! Finally, a Mega bet win!
Not only a Mega Bet win but 3. The Doofus came through going 3-0 on the Mega Bets with:

Western Michigan +31.0 vs Ohio State - Effective but erratic is how their trying to spin Cardale Jones' performance Saturday. I'll give you erratic. He started out fine hitting WR Michael Thomas for a 38 yard TD strike on the first series and another the Jalin Marshall to open the second quarter.
The Buckeyes were really starting to roll when DT Adolphus Wasington made this one handed pick and rumbled into the end zone.
The Buckeyes were really starting to roll when DT Adolphus Wasington made this one handed pick and rumbled into the end zone.
But then the inconsistencies crept in.
On the Bronco 15 with 8 seconds left in the first half, Jones was pressured and threw up a wild duck. The play was ruled intentional grounding and with a 10 second run off the half ended. OSU was up 24-6. Another score at that point would have demoralized WMU.
Jones pretty much stunk it up in the second half going 6 for 14 with a pick. JT Barrett fared no better when he came in midway through the fourth as he threw a pick too.
It was enough to keep Western in the game. That, and Western's ability to hang on to the ball for 37 minutes. Final score Bucknuts 38 Broncos 12 WIN

Bowling Green -2.5 @ Purdue – Last team to score wins. This was an exciting back and forth game. Neither team scored twice in a row. Bowling Green scored the first TD and then they traded TDs throughout the day. Twice Purdue threatened to take the lead on a FG and twice it went wide right.
BGSU QB Matt Johnson continued his streak of 400 yard passing days, notching 402 to go six in a row.
But in the end, Purdue imploded. They had five personal foul calls in the fourth quarter. Aided by one of the personal fouls, the Falcons drove from their own 22 to the Boiler 12 with 9 seconds left. RB Travis Greene then made a nifty scamper to the end zone that won the game. I was resting pretty. Even of the kicked a FG at that point, I would have gotten the cover. Final Falcons 35 Boilers 28 WIN

Indiana -3.5 @ Wake Forest - For the final Mega Bet of the weekend I got to root for the Big Ten for a change. And Indiana, being the Hoosiers, made we sweat this one a bit.
It started out great. Indiana was rolling through Wake Forest.. By the end of the third quarter they were up 24-10. Then they got a pick six to start the fourth quarter. 31-10. Put this game in the bank!
But then they went all Indiana again. With 7 minutes left, WtF scored a TD to cut it to 31-17. No problem.
Until the Deacs recovered the onside and scored another TD with 2 minutes left. Crap, don't blow this Indiana.
The second onside failed and Indiana held on to win 31-24 WIN

The Sheriff went 1-2 on his picks with:
BYU (+5.5) over Michigan - OK Sheriff, no more picking against scUM. It just fired them up. BYU was playing an early noon kickoff coming off huge games against Nebraska, Boise State and UCLA. They came out flat as Michigan rolled 31-0. Now its all about how Michigan barely lost to Utah who crushed Oregon who barely lost to MSU.....
We'll see LOSS
Arizona State (+5.5) over USC - Arizona State turned it over four times and USC made them pay. QB Cody Kessler threw five TD passes as the Trojans romped past the Forks 42-14 LOSS
UCLA (-3.5) over Arizona. The other Cactus state school also turned it over three times and UCLA made them pay. This one was over by the half when UCLA was up 42-14. They then cruised to a 56-30 WIN

I split on the Mini Megas with
Georgia Southern -16.0 @ Idaho - It took awhile for Georgia Southern to get going. They half time lead was only 16-13. I'll give Idaho some credit. they have a dangerous deep downfield passing game which kept them in the game.
But the Eagles turned it on in the second half rolling to 44-20 WIN
St Louis +1.0 vs Pittsburgh - C'mon St Louis. You knock Big Ben out of the game and let the Dog Killer beat you.
Actually it was LeVeon bell. He had a solid game rushing for 62 yards and catching for another 70.
The Rams lost the game late in the fourth quarter. Down 9-3 they had the ball at the Steeler 7 first and goal. They went
Run blown up in back field minus 2 yards
False Start
Bad incompletion
Another false start.
Now its third and goal from the 19. Foles gets pressure and scrambles to the 9
Field Goal.
Final score Pittsburgh 12 St Louis 6 LOSS
The Point Whore Parlay didn't pan out with:
Hawaii +24.5 @ Wisconsin – Wisconsin got a TD a quarter. The Badger secondary looked tough scoring several crunching tackles. They kept the Rainbow Warriors off the scoreboard in a 28-0 win LOSS
Rice +34.5 @ Baylor – Baylor was up to their old selves in blowing past Rice. The scored 3 TDs in the first, second and third quarters before backing off a bit. Fnal score 70-17 LOSS
Southern Miss +22.0 @ Nebraska - Nebraska got up 29-7 by the end of three to get it right at the number. But Southern Miss owned the fourth quarter outscoring the Huskers 21-7. Final score Nebraska 36 Southern Miss 28 WIN
Overall the Big Book of Guesses had a good week going 27-23-1 on the college games. The NFL is still a bit of a mystery as it went 7-9.
But with three Mega Bet wins and splitting the Mini Megas meant a nice profitable weekend.
My hearing is just starting to recover.
