Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas. The Doofus household was packed as always with friends, family and even more family. Children opened presents, tossed them aside to open the next present and end up playing with the boxes. Adults gathered around to catch up on the latest stories and then busied thenselves cleaning up after the kids and preparing a massive feast. A grand time.
The football watching has been non stop with a break for Christmas Day. Although the Sax Man did have the new massive flat screen TV tuned to the NBA - a quirk of his I've never understood.
The bowl picks were looking good for a stretch. At one point I was 25th with a chance to move up into the teens. Mike was doing even better at 11 and moving up. Then Duke beat Indiana in OT and Nebraska upset UCLA to put us both back in the middle of the pack.
The picks against the spread have been middling too.
Bowling Green -5.5 vs Georgia Southern - On this one I split on the picks but misallocated the bets. The pick against the spread turned awful. Bowling Green jumped to a 20-9 lead in the second quarter. Things were looking good.
Then, Georgia Southern made some kind of adjustment at halftime. They just ran all over BGSU in the second half on their way to a 58-27 blowout. Missed the pick against the spread but got the over 64 before the end of the 3rd quarter.
There are two games tonight. I'm still hanging back on a Mega Bet but I will lay a quatloo each on:

Navy -3.5 vs Pitt - Navy is playing on their home field which accounts for the spread. I also like the fact that the last time Pitt faced an option attack they struggled against Georgia Tech. narduzzi is a good coach and has had time to prepare and make fixes but Navy saw the film too and will bring a few surprises.
Navy QB Kennan Reynolds will want to gain back the all time TD record that La Tech RB "borrowed" last week in their win over Ark State. Reynolds needs 3 to get it back. He will.
This game will come down to - can Navy's 3rd best rushing attack beat Pitt's 20th best rushing defens?. If Pitt can hold serve they will try to beat Navy with a more balanced offense featuring freshman RB QaDree Ollison (1,048 yards) and star WR Tyler Boyd.
This will be the toughest, most physical bowl game short of the Cotton Bowl. Should be a dandy. I'll take Navy to grind out a win and cover the 3.5

Central Michigan +5.5 vs Minnesota - Minnesota shouldn't be in a bowl. They went 5-7 in a tumultuous year. HC Jerry Kill stepped down to deal with medical issues which sparked the Gophers. They played tough but always seemed to lose a close game.
CMU played in an all timer in last years Bahama Bowl nearly overcoming a 35 point defeicit in the 4th quarter. Minnesota struggles in bowl games losing their last seven in a row.
This game will be a contrast in styles. Minnesota likes to grind it out with the running game while Central favors the passing game.
CMU QB Cooper Rush had eight 300-yard passing games while keeping his picks to a mininum. He will face a Minnesota secondary that has two likely NFL draft picks in Eric Murray and Briean Boddy-Calhoun. great matchup.
These teams are evenly matched I'll take the points.
