First – a fond farewell to Lee Corso. Sure the headgear thing was pure schtick, but you always stuck around to see which team he would pick. And more often than not he got it right. He finishes with a 286-144 all-time record in headgear selections nearly 2/3 correct. 1999 was his best year going a perfect 11-0. Yup that meant he got Michigan State's upset of Michigan correct.

Expectations were through the roof and after the opening drive things were looking great. Until TCU, a team picked to be in the middle of the pack in the Big 12 rattled off 41 unanswered points, emptying a sold-out crowd before the fourth quarter even began.

Xavier Scott and Miles Scott form one the best secondaries in the country Illinois -2.5 @ Duke – Today’s action starts out with a sneaky good game.
Lost in ACC action last year, between SMU’s meteoric rise and FSU’s utter collapse, Duke went 9-3. Yeah, that basketball school has won 17 games in the last two years. And they are doing it with defense coached by one of the best HC Manny Diaz.
Illinois went 10-3 and with one of the highest numbers of returning starters, the Illini a are considered a dark horse candidate for the CFP. QB Luke Altmyer returns for his third season with OC Barry Lunney. In front of him, all five of last year's offensive line starters return. The Illini secondary is loaded with one of the best safety tandems in the country in Xavier Scott and Miles Scott.
Both teams won in blow outs in Week 1. But they did it in significantly different fashions. Illinois jumped in front early and pounded Western Illinois into submission. Meanwhile, Duke was even at the half with Elon and led by just seven a minute into the fourth quarter before pulling away.

Delaware struggled to put away a really bad FCS team in Delaware State last week and their 1st string QB went down. DSU had several explosive plays on the ground against Delaware so I expect Colorado to pound away at UD’s undersized DL
It’s the farthest west the Blue Hens have played in 22 years and are unfamiliar with playing at elevation. Prime Time is going to run up the score.

Virginia Tech -1.5 vs Vanderbilt – Playing the revenge angle here. Vanderbilt’s crazy 2024 season included an upsets over No. 1 Alabama, and road wins at Kentucky and Auburn, started with an upset as two-touchdown underdogs over Virginia Tech in last year’s opener.
The Hokies had no answer for dual-threat QB Diego Pavia. However, the Va Tech defense has already shown dramatic improvement from last year despite falling to a 24-11 defeat vs. South Carolina last Sunday. The Hokie linebackers will keep Pavia from taking off like he did last year.
Virginia Tech was right in the game until the fourth quarter, when South Carolina scored on a punt return to put the game out of reach. The Hokies did hold South Carolina to just 119 yards on 37 carries, and the front seven looked substantially quicker than last year’s group.
The Hokies had the patented players-only meeting and are looking to avenge last season's opening game loss to this same Vanderbilt team as two-touchdown favorites.
Lane Stadium at night, “Enter the Sandman” pumping up the crowd with revenge on their minds. The Hokies will give maximum effort tonight.
